Everything you need to know about training with CTO

Frequently asked questions

    • Where is the training held?

All CTO training is delivered onsite at your workplace, or online via Microsoft Teams or Zoom.

If you choose onsite training, your trainer comes to you to facilitate your training in the comfort of your own workplace environment.

If you choose online training, your trainer will arrange with you the best online tool to use for this training.  If the course is one of the Microsoft courses, this is more usual to be delivered using Microsoft Teams.  But this is a decision you and the trainer can make together.

Please visit our online course page here to see our most popular online training courses.

      • Darwin

      International Locations:

      • New Zealand
      • Singapore
      • Malaysia
      • Thailand
      • United Kingdom
      • Canada
      • USA
    • I live in a regional centre. Can you train me here?

CTO Training can be presented anywhere in Australia.

If we don’t have a local trainer, we will organise to fly your trainer to you –  you will simply need to meet travel and accommodation costs.

We normally recommend your trainer arrives in your town the day prior to your training.

Your trainer may fly to you from anywhere within Australia, as we will always match you with the most highly qualified facilitator to present your course.

    • How many trainees can attend the course?

The preferred number of trainees depends on the course, the expected outcomes of the course, and the delivery method.  For the trainees to get the most benefit from the course, we would typically recommend limiting the number of trainees to 8-12 for a Microsoft 365 course, and 16-20 trainees for a Professional Development course.  This is only a guide.

      • We can provide training for 1-3 trainees at the same rate
      • We can provide training for 4-8 trainees at the same rate
      • We can provide a per-person rate for groups of more than 8 traine
    • The training is only for me. What are the training charges for 1 trainee?

We can deliver 1‑to‑1 customised training, either onsite or online, starting from $880 for a half‑day session, depending on your requirements.

As the fee reflects the cost of an experienced trainer delivering the session, the same rate applies for up to three participants.

For some areas - particularly professional development, a group can enhance discussions, group activities and overall learning outcomes. For more technical or system‑based training, sessions can be equally effective one‑to‑one or in small groups.

If you prefer to train individually, we are happy to accommodate this with a tailored session.

    • Can the course be customised to suit my business needs?

Yes, your training can be completely tailored to your requirements.

You can leave some topics out of one course and add new topics from other courses.

The easiest way to do this is to download the course outline from each of the courses you’re interested in and highlight the topics you would like to cover from each course.

Then simply email the highlighted course outlines back to us, and we’ll have your trainer customise your training to cover the topics you want.

Alternatively, book a free consultation with us and we will help you with it!

      It’s easy 😀

    • Do I have to follow the standard course curriculum?

You don’t have to follow the standard course curriculum.

Remember, your training is customised to suit your needs.  So you can:

      • change topics around
      • skip topics if you already have those skills
      • add topics in from other course levels or from a companion product

For example, you could include some introduction level topics and then some intermediate level topics.

    • Can I work on my own documents during the training?

Yes, we can assist you to build and complete your own documents and files as part of the training process.

    • Can I attend a classroom course?

We offer our training as an onsite (your site) service only, with all courses customised to suit your particular requirements.

However, we could always work together to locate a suitable offsite training room, if that is preferred.

    • Can I choose some topics from the Introduction Course and some topics from the Intermediate & Advanced Courses?

Yes, you can customise your training with topics from different course levels, to suit your requirements.

    • Are training manuals available for my training?

Training manuals, or training reference books are available for most courses. These can be ordered at the time you book your training.

    • Do I need a training manual for all trainees – there are 8 of us?

For most courses, you can choose to have one training manual per person, or you can just order a couple of copies for the office, as reference materials following the completion of your training course. For some courses, the students may need a training manual for classroom exercises – we will let you know when you are booking if this is required. Most training manuals are available in a printed format.

    • Do the courses run over one day, two days, or a number of weeks?

Your onsite or online training is presented by your trainer and can be totally customised to suit your needs and timeframes. You can have a 1-hour course, a 1-day course, a 1.5 day course, a 2-day course or 1 day per week (running over 3-4 weeks).

    • Can I change my course date when I have already booked the training?

Yes, course dates can be changed, subject to notice and trainer availability.

Changes made more than 14 days prior to the scheduled date are usually straightforward. Changes requested within 14 days may be accommodated depending on availability and may incur a fee.

    • How much will it cost me to change my training date?

Where sufficient notice is provided, training dates can be rescheduled for a $75 administration fee, subject to trainer availability.

For changes requested within 14 days of the scheduled date, higher fees may apply depending on the notice given, as the trainer has already been allocated. In these cases, rescheduling fees may be up to 50% of the course cost, depending on timing and availability.

    • Will I get a refund if I cancel my training?

Refunds are subject to the notice period provided, with the following cancellation fees applied to the full course cost:

      • 30+ days’ notice: Full refund of any deposit paid (no cancellation fee)
      • 14–29 days’ notice: 25% cancellation fee of the full course cost
      • 4–13 days’ notice: 50% cancellation fee of the full course cost
      • Within 3 days: 100% cancellation fee

Where possible, we will always aim to accommodate date changes as an alternative to cancellation, subject to availability.

    • How far in advance do I have to book my training?

You can book your course a minimum of 10 working days out, on a date which suits you.

This is done via the Course Registration page on the CTO website, OR by calling us on 1300 667-660.

Why do you have to book 10 working days in advance?   Because of the time it takes to:

      • Find you an available trainer (they get very booked up)
      • Issue your invoice
      • Receive your payment
      • Send your training confirmation details
      • Have your trainer call you to discuss your required training outcomes
      • Give your trainer time to then prepare your training to fit your requirements
      • Order your training manuals
      • Deliver your training manuals, which are printed on demand and shipped to your location/s

However, if you need the training sooner, talk to us.  We may be able to speed things up.

    • What time will my course start?

For a full day course, typically your training begins at 9:30am and finishes at 4:30pm, with appropriate morning, lunch and afternoon breaks.  However, this timing can be flexible, depending on the trainer.

We request you are at your training venue, and ready to go into your training session, at least 15 minutes prior to your course start time.

    • What time will my course finish?

For a full day course, typically the training is completed at 4:30pm, unless previously arranged with your trainer. You may also request a shorter lunch break in order to finish your training a little earlier.

    • Do I get a lunch break?

Of course! Training breaks are typically taken for 15 minutes in the morning and afternoon, and for one (1) hour at lunchtime.

    • What if I only want a couple of hours training?

Our standard training day runs over 6 hours, from 9:30am – 4:30pm, with breaks.

However, we also offer a half day training session, for 3 hours.
A half day course typically runs from 9:30am to 12:30pm.

However, if you would prefer something different, talk to us!

    • Can I change my course times?

Our standard training sessions run from 9:30am to 4:30pm.

However, if you would prefer different start and finish times, mention this to us when you are booking your course.  You can also negotiate this directly with your trainer, when they call you to discuss your course.

Your trainer will be happy to meet your request where possible.

    • When do I need to pay for my training?

Once your training dates are agreed and an experienced CTO trainer has been allocated, an invoice will be issued. Your training is secured once payment has been received.

For training booked well in advance, a deposit may be arranged, with full payment due prior to delivery. Payment terms will be outlined in your proposal.

    • How can I pay for my training?

Payment is usually made by direct deposit into the bank account on the invoice that is issued.

If you prefer to pay by credit card, let us know and we will organise this for you.

    • How do I know my payment has been received?

Once your payment has been received by CTO, you will receive a Training Confirmation email from us.

      This email will confirm that:

      • your payment has been received
      • your training date is booked
      • your trainer has been allocated to your booking
      • and your training manuals have been ordered, if you requested manuals for your training session
    • When will my invoice be issued?

Your invoice will be emailed to you as soon as we have allocated a trainer for you, for one of your preferred training dates.

Please note that until your payment is received, your training booking is not confirmed, and you may lose the training date/s you have requested.

So please remember to pay your invoice as soon as possible after you receive it, to lock in your trainer for your preferred training date.
